On the surface, the Esotera file system looks very familiar.
You launch Esotera from your browser, software is downloaded if necessary, you sign in and the 'dataSeninel' File Explorer
interface pops up. It looks very much like the Windows File Explorer: Directories are listed on the left, and files
are displayed on the right. You do all the usual double-clicking and dragging.
Security in numbers.
The files you work with are not stored on your computer. Each time you save a file
it is broken equally size pieces of encrypted data and stored many different servers across the continent. Click on the
image on the left to help you visualize this.
The Esotera InfiniDrive client calculates where to put these blocks based on encryption keys (we call them Personal Encryption Codes
or PECs for short) that are known only to you. This is very different from conventional solutions that store your files intact on their
servers and merely ask you to prove who you are (i.e. authenticate) when you want those files back.
Esotera places the control of your files directly in your hands. Only meaningless, anonymous blocks of data reside on our servers.
They are hidden in a large '264 number space' which means that an attacker would have to make billions of billions of guesses
to find blocks that belong to someone else's files.
Conventional solutions ask you to trust them to safely hold your files on their equipment. They will offer to encrypt these files,
but often they manage the encrpytion codes for you. Although it is clearly in their interest to maintain thier reputation,
there is always the danger of computer hackers and dishonest employees.
Portability.
The Esotera solution is independent of any computer. The InfiniDrive client runs on any computer connected to the Internet.
When it finishes, the files are safely stored across the network. They do not exist on the computer. There is no hassle when
you upgrade to a new computer. You can access your files from the home or the office or on the road.
Reliability.
The Esotera storage process actually stores three copies of each block on three different servers. These servers exist in
different facilities. If a server breaks down or becomes unreachable, your data is not affected because two other
servers may be asked for each block. Once server failure occurs, a new server begins collecting the lost blocks to ensure there are
always three copies in place. We exploit the architecture of the web to provide uninterruptable file storage.
Sharing is just mathematics.
When you decide to share a directory of files, Esotera calculates unique PEC that you can send through an email.
This PEC can only be used for files within that directory, it cannot find files in the rest of your collection.
The InfiniDrive client also calculates a short Pass Phrase for this PEC. The new user must enter this Pass Phrase to
unlock the PEC. We recommend that you email the PEC but give the Pass Phrase over the telephone or conventional mail.
This gives you the maximum assurance that only the people you want will see your shared files.
