1) What exactly is Esotera?
Esotera is a next generation file system, accessed by
a special client program, that creates virtual drives for each user that
store files as encrpyted blocks distributed across the continent on many different servers.
The positions of those blocks are derived from a security key held only by the owner --- not by Esotera.
This architecture protects your files from system crashes, file corruption, or theft. It allows you
to use your virtual drives securely from any computer and eliminates the need to perform tedious backups.
With Esotera, your personal and business data is now independent of any computer, so you are not
affected when computers break down or become outdated.
This solution does more than just protect your data. Esotera
allows you to share data in a secure way. You can grant specific people the
right to access certain directories of your personal or your company's files from any computer without having
to copy the files onto CDs or other storage media.
2) How do I use Esotera?
Once your account has been created, you launch the Esotera 'InfiniDrive client' by simply visiting a web page.
If you use the same computer regularly, you can ask InfiniDrive to place a small security file on that
computer that simplifies your log-in procedure to just one password entry. You can also place that file
on a USB stick so that you can easily log in to any computer. If you've lost the USB stick, no problem.
The security file it contained can be instantly invalidated the next time you log in, and you can create
a new security file just by answering a couple of extra security questions. You're data is 100% safe.
One caution, though. If you forget the answers to your security questions, we can't help get your data back.
Esotera technology makes it impossible for anyone, including us, to see your data. So put your security answers in
a safe place.
3) What can I do with Esotera?
You can access business data wherever you go on the
planet. It stores data securely on multiple hosted internet
servers. Esotera even
protects files from being accessed should you link into a file-sharing
program.
4) Do I need to install software?
No, it automatically runs on any Windows, Macintosh or Linux based computer
from a web page.
5) Where is my data stored?
InfiniDrive runs a special client on the computer you are using,
but the blocks of its files are stored on
multiple online servers, strategically located across North
America, in our secure patent-pending format.
6) Do I need to select which files/directories
to backup?
You can if you wish. Esotera is much more than a backup system. Its a virtual drive system accessible
privately by the user from any computer. However, InfiniDrive can also be configured to automatically monitor and
replicate directories such as Window's Documents and Applications folder. This is more convenient for new
users, but is less secure as files on a computer are typically unencrypted and can be accessed
by anyone who has access to that computer (or remotely by computer viruses that infect a computer.)
7) How safe is my data?
Esotera stores data in a compressed, encrypted
and ultra fault-tolerant format on servers located in separate
geographies, using distributed block storage. A hacker would have to
make billions of billions of guesses to find the blocks of any file and then have
to decrypt and reassemble a file. This is many orders of magnitude safer than anything else out there.
Each block of each file is actually stored on three different servers. Than means that we are not affected when
a server breaks down. We just start up a new server and replace the blocks that were on the old server
8) Do I need to run a backup?
No. The architecture of the Esotera storage system makes
backup and restore procedures redundant.
9) Do I need a InfiniDrive
USB stick?
No, its optional. A USB stick just makes it easier to access personal or business data on any PC connected
to the internet. Without the USB stick you would have to enter your username, password and two security questions.
10) Can I share data with friends
or colleagues?
Yes, users can share folders (read/write or read-only) with
clients or colleagues just by sending a link in an email and giving them (separately!) a passphrase
11) Can I drag and drop folders
from Windows Explorer?
Yes, users can drag and drop folders or files into the
Esotera directory to save them online.
12) If I lose my stick, can anyone
get at my data?
No. The USB security file is protected by a 'salt' parameter which is supplied during authentication. Without
this salt, the file cannot be read and the user is forced to perform a full login with security questions. The
legitimate user can buy a new stick, and set it up to simplify future logins again.
13) Can anyone access or see my
data online?
No. The storage algorithm uses state of the art encryption and
pseudo random number generators to hide your data blocks.
Esotera technology ensures that anything a hacker might
access would be meanless, annonymous gibberish that cannot be associated with the original file.
14) What happens if my computer
crashes?
You can take your InfiniDrive USB stick to another
computer, plug it in, and immediately access your data. If you are not using a USB stick, then you would also
answer the Security Questions. Your data is ready for you to use.
